Life#
Mehmet Şevki Efendi was born in Aytos (Aydos) in 1860/61 (AH 1277), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Mehmet Şevki began work in the telegraph service (Telgraf) in Aytos in 1876/77, at about 16, with one unpaid year as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 500 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1877/78, with Mehmet Şevki as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in Tutrakan. The last posts were in Çatalca from 1878 to 1881.
