Life#
Ahmet Bican Efendi was born in Erzurum in 1860/61 (AH 1277), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Ahmet Bican began work in Erzurum in 1881/82, at about 21, with six unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 100 kuruş. Every annual entry from 1897/98 to 1906/07 places Ahmet Bican in Erzurum, the birthplace, first as a registry clerk (Mukayyit), from 1902/03 in the clerkship of the chief director's office (Başmüdür Kitabeti).
