Life#
Mustafa Sıdkı Efendi was born in Erzurum in 1873/74 (AH 1290) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Work began in the postal service (Posta) in Erzurum in 1893/94, at about 20, with three unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 200 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1896/97, places Mustafa Sıdkı in Erzurum, the birthplace, in the Ambar Kalemi, where the entries run to 1904/05. The last entry, for 1905/06, names neither a title nor a place.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 200 kuruş a month in 1896/97, in the Ambar Kalemi in Erzurum, when 8 per cent of paid officials earned less. In all, nine years of salary come to 19,200 kuruş, 36 per cent of what an official on the median salary earned in those years. The last annual entry is for 1905/06.
