Life#
Hüsnü Efendi was born in Sivas in 1868/69 (AH 1285) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Hüsnü began work in Sivas in 1888/89, at about 20, with one unpaid year as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 250 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1889/90, places Hüsnü in Aleppo (Halep) as a sergeant (Çavuş), where the entries run to 1891/92, with a rise to registry clerk (Mukayyit) in 1890/91. Hüsnü then moved to Adana from 1892 to 1899, with a rise to postal official (Posta Memuru). The last post was in Tripoli (Trablusşam) in 1899/1900.
Pay rose from 250 kuruş a month in 1889/90 to a peak of 500 in 1892/93, as Posta Memuru in Adana, when 44 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1899/1900. Hüsnü probably has an entry in "Sicill-i Ahval Defterlerine göre Sivaslı devlet adamları" by NESLİHAN EROL (2022) (the name and the birthplace agree).
