Life#
Born in Gelibolu in 1865/66 (AH 1282), Mustafa Necati Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a tradesman (esnaf). Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Mustafa Necati also wrote Turkish and spoke Greek (Rum).
Mustafa Necati began work in Keşan in 1882/83, at about 17, paid from the start, on 320 kuruş a month. The annual lists begin in 1882/83, with Mustafa Necati as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in Keşan. Next came Vize in 1884/85 and Servia in 1886/87, then Adana from 1887 to 1900. The last posts were in Ioannina in 1900/01 and Akseki in 1901/02.
The salary went from 320 kuruş a month in 1882/83 to 500 in 1897/98, the peak, as Muhabere Memuru in Adana, when half the paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1901/02. An entry in "Sicill-i Ahvâl kayıtlarına göre Gelibolu doğumlu memurlar (1879-1909)" by OSMAN UMUT NAL (2026) probably refers to Mustafa Necati, since the name, the birthplace and the archive register and page agree.
