Life#
İhsan Lütfü Efendi was born in 1866/67 (AH 1283) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took 12 years, at Darüşşafaka, the school for orphans in Istanbul; İhsan Lütfü also attended the telegraph school, wrote French, Persian and Turkish, and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
İhsan Lütfü began work in Istanbul in 1892/93, at about 26, paid from the start, on 400 kuruş a month. The first annual entry, for 1892/93, places İhsan Lütfü in Istanbul as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru), where the entries run to 1897/98. The last posts were in Adana in 1898/99 and Basra from 1899 to 1901.
The salary went from 400 kuruş a month in 1892/93 to 1,200 in 1899/1900, the peak, as 1. Müdür in Basra, when 92 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1900/01.
