Life

Born in Aleppo (Halep) in 1879/80 (AH 1297) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, İbrahim Halil Efendi was the child of a doctor (doktor). Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); İbrahim Halil also wrote Arabic as well as Turkish.

İbrahim Halil began work in Istanbul in 1902/03, at about 22, with two unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 100 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1904/05, places İbrahim Halil in Istanbul as a letters official (Mekâtib Memuru). The last post was in Katran in 1905/06, with a rise to director of the third grade (3. Müdür).

The salary went from 100 kuruş a month in 1904/05 to 500 in 1905/06, the peak, as 3. Müdür in Katran, when half the paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1905/06.
