Life#
Born in Istanbul in 1880/81 (AH 1298), Hüseyin Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a tradesman (esnaf). Hüseyin was taught by a private teacher.
At about 23, in 1904/05, Hüseyin began work in Istanbul, with half a year without pay as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 35 kuruş. From the first annual entry, for 1904/05, to 1906/07, every annual entry places Hüseyin in the same office, documents office (Evrak Kalemi), in Istanbul, the birthplace.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 35 kuruş a month in 1904/05, in the Evrak Kalemi in Istanbul, when fewer than 1 per cent of paid officials earned less.
