Life#
Born in Lemnos (Limni) in 1883/84 (AH 1301) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, Süleyman Halim Efendi was the child of an official (memur). Süleyman Halim had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi), and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Work began in Lemnos in 1901/02, at about 17, with four unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 200 kuruş. Both annual entries, for 1905/06 and 1906/07, place Süleyman Halim in Thessaloniki (Selanik) as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru).
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 200 kuruş a month in 1905/06, as Muhabere Memuru in Thessaloniki, when 8 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1906/07.
