Life#
Born in Istanbul in 1871/72 (AH 1288), Mustafa Rasim Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father's occupation was "Mubasir". Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Mustafa Rasim also wrote French as well as Turkish and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Work began in Istanbul in 1893/94, at about 22, with four unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 30 kuruş. Every annual entry from 1897/98 to 1901/02 places Mustafa Rasim in Istanbul, the birthplace, first as an official for outgoing items (Mersule Memuru), from 1901/02 in the sorting room (Tefrik Odası).
