Born in Sivrihisar in 1880/81 (AH 1298), Ahmet Hamdi Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a tradesman (esnaf). Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Ahmet Hamdi also held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).

At about 21, in 1902/03, Ahmet Hamdi began work in Sivrihisar, with half a year without pay as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 200 kuruş. Every annual entry from 1902/03 to 1904/05 places Ahmet Hamdi in the same post, communications official (Muhabere Memuru), in Ankara.
