Life#
Hafız Sadık Efendi was born in Dupnitsa (Dupniçe) in 1863/64 (AH 1280) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Work began in Petrich (Petriç) in 1882/83, at about 19, with three unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 500 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1885/86, places Sadık in Petrich as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru). The last posts were in Carva from 1887 to 1890.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 500 kuruş a month in 1885/86, as Muhabere Memuru in Petrich, when 42 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1889/90.
