Life#
Mehmet Rasim Efendi was born in Dupnitsa (Dupniçe) in 1871/72 (AH 1288), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Mehmet Rasim also held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
At about 16, in 1887/88, Mehmet Rasim began work in Sidirokastro (Demirhisar), with six unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 400 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1893/94, with Mehmet Rasim as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in Silifke, where the entries run to 1901/02, with a rise to acting director (Müdür Vekili) in 1898/99. The last posts were in Malko Tarnovo in 1902/03 and Silifke again in 1903/04.
Pay rose from 400 kuruş a month in 1893/94 to a peak of 600 in 1903/04, as a director of the third grade (3. Müdür) in Silifke, when two in three paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1903/04.
