Life#
Todori İstavridis Efendi was born in Izmir (İzmir) in 1870/71 (AH 1287), into the Greek Orthodox Christian (Rum) community. Schooling took four years, at a community school (Millet Mektebi); Todori İstavridis also wrote Greek (Rum) as well as Turkish and spoke French.
Todori İstavridis began work in Izmir in 1889/90, at about 19, paid from the start, on 150 kuruş a month. From 1889/90 to 1904/05 every annual entry places Todori İstavridis in Izmir, the birthplace, first as a postal official (Posta Memuru), from 1903/04 in the sorting room (Tefrik Odası).
