Life#
Born in Trikala (Tırhala) in 1880/81 (AH 1298), Numan Mahir Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Numan Mahir had 12 years of schooling, at Darüşşafaka, the school for orphans in Istanbul, attended the telegraph school as well, wrote French as well as Turkish, and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
At about 26, in 1907/08, Numan Mahir began work in Istanbul, paid from the start, on 300 kuruş a month. Both annual entries, for 1907/08 and 1908/09, place Numan Mahir in Istanbul in the accounts office (Muhasebe Kalemi).
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 300 kuruş a month in 1907/08, in the Muhasebe Kalemi in Istanbul, when 39 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1908/09.
