Ömer Şükrü Efendi was born in Istanbul in 1880/81 (AH 1298), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took 12 years, at Darüşşafaka, the school for orphans in Istanbul; Ömer Şükrü also attended the telegraph school, wrote French as well as Turkish and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
