Life#
Born in Crete (Girit) in 1872/73 (AH 1289), this official came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community. At about 19, in 1891/92, the official began work in Fransa, paid from the start, on 750 kuruş a month. The annual lists begin in 1893/94, with the official in the Ecnebiye Kalemi in Istanbul, where the entries run to 1895/96. From 1896 to 1906 the annual entries place the official in Galata, with four changes of title, from Ecnebiye Kalemi to director (Müdür) in 1903/04.
Pay rose from 750 kuruş a month in 1893/94 to a peak of 1,650 in 1903/04, as Müdür in Galata, when 95 per cent of paid officials earned less.
