Life#
Born in Bartın in 1878/79 (AH 1296), Hüseyin İbrahim Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a tradesman (esnaf). Hüseyin İbrahim had 12 years of schooling, at Darüşşafaka, the school for orphans in Istanbul, attended the telegraph school as well, wrote French as well as Turkish, and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Work began in Galata in 1900/01, at about 21, paid from the start, on 400 kuruş a month. The annual lists begin in 1900/01, with Hüseyin İbrahim in the stamp clerkship (Pul Kitabeti) in Galata, where the entries run to 1904/05. In 1905/06 the lists place Hüseyin İbrahim in Tophane, with a rise to official for outgoing items (Mersule Memuru).
Pay rose from 400 kuruş a month in 1900/01 to a peak of 420 in 1905/06, as Mersule Memuru in Tophane, when 46 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1905/06.
