Life#
Born in Sivas in 1878/79 (AH 1296), Mehmet Şadi Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a farmer (çiftçi). Schooling took 12 years, at Darüşşafaka, the school for orphans in Istanbul; Mehmet Şadi also attended the telegraph school, wrote French as well as Turkish and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Work began in Istanbul in 1902/03, at about 23, paid from the start, on 400 kuruş a month. Both annual entries, for 1902/03 and 1903/04, place Mehmet Şadi in Beyoğlu as an official for foreign communications (Muhaberat-ı Ecnebiye Memuriyeti).
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 400 kuruş a month in 1902/03, as Muhaberat-ı Ecnebiye Memuriyeti in Beyoğlu, when one in three paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1903/04. Mehmet Şadi probably has an entry in "Sicill-i Ahval Defterlerine göre Sivaslı devlet adamları" by NESLİHAN EROL (2022) (the name and the birthplace agree).
