Life#
İsmail Cemal Efendi was born in Istanbul in 1878/79 (AH 1296), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, and the father's occupation was "Fabrika Memuru". Schooling took 12 years, at Darüşşafaka, the school for orphans in Istanbul; İsmail Cemal also attended the telegraph school, wrote French as well as Turkish and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
İsmail Cemal began work in Istanbul in 1902/03, at about 23, paid from the start, on 400 kuruş a month. From the first annual entry, for 1902/03, to 1905/06, every annual entry places İsmail Cemal in the same post, official for foreign communications (Muhaberat-ı Ecnebiye Memuriyeti), in Beyoğlu.
