Life#
Born in Sidirokastro (Demirhisar) in 1881/82 (AH 1299), Süleyman Tevfik Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a telegraph official (telgraf memuru). Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Süleyman Tevfik began work in Sidirokastro in 1896/97, at about 15, with six unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 200 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1902/03, with Süleyman Tevfik as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in Sidirokastro, the birthplace. The last posts were in Petrich and Karaburun from 1903 to 1906 and Petrich (Petriç) again in 1906/07.
