Life#
Born in Stara Zagora (Eski Zağra) in 1879/80 (AH 1297), ALİ CEVAT EFENDİ came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); ALİ CEVAT also held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
At about 19, in 1899/1900, ALİ CEVAT began work in Istanbul, with three unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 30 kuruş. Every annual entry from 1902/03 to 1905/06 places ALİ CEVAT in the same office, office of the corresponding secretary (Mektubi Kalemi), in Istanbul.
