Life#
Ahmet Muhtar Efendi was born in Istanbul in 1852/53 (AH 1269) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took four years, at a school for young children (Sıbyan Mektebi).
Ahmet Muhtar worked unpaid for four years as a mülazım (apprentice). Every annual entry from 1880/81 to 1908/09 places Ahmet Muhtar in Istanbul, the birthplace, with five changes of title, from policeman (Polis) to 1. Ihtiyat Bolugu Baskomseri in 1900/01.
