Life#
Bekir Zuhtu Efendi was born in Nevşehir in 1854/55 (AH 1271), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took four years, at a school for young children (Sıbyan Mektebi).
At about 23, in 1878, Bekir Zuhtu began work in the Zaptiye Kalemi in Istanbul, paid from the start, on 380 kuruş a month. The first annual entry, for 1878, places Bekir Zuhtu in Istanbul as 3. Sinif Teftis Memuru, where the entries run to 1895/96, with a rise to police commissioner, third class (3. Sınıf Polis Komiseri) in 1882/83 and to police commissioner, second class (2. Sınıf Polis Komiseri) in 1894/95. The last posts were in Üsküdar from 1896 to 1898.
