Life#
Abdulkadir Efendi was born in Eskizagra in 1858/59 (AH 1275), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Abdulkadir began work in the Zaptiye Kalemi in Istanbul in 1878, at about 19, paid from the start, on 380 kuruş a month. From 1878 to 1894/95 every annual entry places Abdulkadir in Istanbul, with four changes of title, from Teftis Memuru to chief police commissioner (Başkomiser) in 1887/88.
Pay rose from 380 kuruş a month in 1878 to a peak of 800 in 1887/88, as Başkomiser in Istanbul, when 76 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1894/95. Abdulkadir received a rank (rütbe) and the Mecidi and Osmani orders.
