Life#
Hasan Sabri Efendi was born in Tosya in 1875/76 (AH 1292) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a teacher (muallim). Schooling took 12 years, at Darüşşafaka, the school for orphans in Istanbul; Hasan Sabri also attended the telegraph school, wrote French as well as Turkish and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Work began in Çanakkale in 1900/01, at about 25, paid from the start, on 400 kuruş a month. Every annual entry from 1900/01 to 1903/04 places Hasan Sabri in the same post, postal official (Posta Memuru), in Çanakkale.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 400 kuruş a month in 1900/01, as Posta Memuru in Çanakkale, when 31 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1903/04. Hasan Sabri probably has an entry in "Sicill-i Ahval Defterleri'ne göre Tosyalı memurlar (1879-1909)" by BETÜL MERVE HAMAMCI (2022) (the name, the birthplace and the archive register and page agree).
