Life#
Born in Çorlu in 1870/71 (AH 1287), Mustafa Kamil Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a police official (zaptiye memuru). Mustafa Kamil had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Work began in Çorlu in 1884/85, at about 15, paid from the start, on 310 kuruş a month. The first annual entry, for 1895/96, places Mustafa Kamil in Çorlu, the birthplace, as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru), where the entries run to 1897/98. Mustafa Kamil then moved to Ayvalık in 1898/99, then Çanakkale from 1899 to 1906, with a rise to director of the third grade (3. Müdür) in 1904/05. The last post was in Izmir (İzmir) in 1906/07.
Pay rose from 310 kuruş a month in 1895/96 to a peak of 600 in 1904/05, as 3. Müdür in Çanakkale, when two in three paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1906/07.
