Life#
Born in Çorlu in 1874/75 (AH 1291), Ömer Naim Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Ömer Naim had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi), and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
At about 16, in 1889/90, Ömer Naim began work in Çorlu, with five unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 300 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1894/95, places Ömer Naim in Çatalca as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru). The annual lists then follow Ömer Naim back to Çorlu, the birthplace, from 1896 to 1905. The last post was in Saray in 1905/06, with a rise to Muhabere Memuru.
The salary went from 300 kuruş a month in 1894/95 to 400 in 1905/06, the peak, as Muhabere Memuru in Saray, when 38 per cent of paid officials earned less.
