Life#
Born in Plovdiv (Filibe) in 1877/78 (AH 1294), Hüseyin Necati Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a tithe official (aşar memuru). Hüseyin Necati had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
At about 17, in 1894/95, Hüseyin Necati began work in the telegraph service (Telgraf) in Bursa, with six unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 300 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1900/01, places Hüseyin Necati in Çorlu as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru), where the entries run to 1902/03. The last posts were in Hudavendigar from 1903 to 1907, with a rise to a post in the accounts office (Muhasebe Kalemi) in 1906/07.
Pay rose from 350 kuruş a month in 1900/01 to a peak of 750 in 1906/07, in the Muhasebe Kalemi in Hudavendigar, when 76 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1906/07.
