Life#
Born in Istanbul in 1858/59 (AH 1275) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, Ali Rıza Efendi was the child of a tradesman (esnaf). Ali Rıza had four years of schooling, at a school for young children (Sıbyan Mektebi).
Work began in 1882/83, at about 24. Every annual entry from 1893/94 to 1904/05 places Ali Rıza in the same post, factory official (Fabrika Memuru), in Istanbul, the birthplace.
