Life#
Mehmet Murat Efendi was born in Aleppo (Halep) in 1877/78 (AH 1294), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, and the father's occupation was "Ziraat Bankasi Azasi". Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Mehmet Murat began work in Aleppo in 1895/96, at about 18, with five unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 300 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1900/01, with Mehmet Murat as a postal official (Posta Memuru) in Gaziantep (Antep), where the entries run to 1902/03.
