Life#
Ahmed Sadi Efendi was born in Istanbul in 1886/87 (AH 1304) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was an army major (binbaşı). Schooling took seven years, at the Maarif Mektebi; Ahmed Sadi also wrote French as well as Turkish.
At about 18, in 1905/06, Ahmed Sadi began work in Istanbul, paid from the start, on 100 kuruş a month. From the first annual entry, for 1905/06, to 1907/08, every annual entry places Ahmed Sadi in the same post, official of the union post (İttihat Posta Memuru), in Istanbul, the birthplace.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 100 kuruş a month in 1905/06, as İttihat Posta Memuru in Istanbul, when 2 per cent of paid officials earned less. In all, three years of salary come to 3,600 kuruş, 24 per cent of what an official on the median salary earned in those years. The last annual entry is for 1907/08.
