Life#
Born in Bursa in 1886/87 (AH 1304) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, İsmail Hakkı Efendi was the child of an army major (binbaşı). Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); İsmail Hakkı also wrote French as well as Turkish and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
At about 18, in 1905/06, İsmail Hakkı began work in Istanbul, paid from the start, on 100 kuruş a month. Both annual entries, for 1905/06 and 1906/07, place İsmail Hakkı in Istanbul as an official for foreign communications (Muhaberat-ı Ecnebiye Memuriyeti).
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 100 kuruş a month in 1905/06, as Muhaberat-ı Ecnebiye Memuriyeti in Istanbul, when 2 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1906/07.
