Life#
Born in Komotini (Gümülcine) in 1870/71 (AH 1287) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, İbrahim Efendi was the child of a gendarme (jandarma). İbrahim had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Work began in Gusinje (Gusinye) in 1898/99, at about 28, paid from the start, on 500 kuruş a month. The annual lists begin in 1898/99, with İbrahim as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in Gusinje, where the entries run to 1900/01. Next came Erzincan from 1901 to 1903. The last posts were in Kemah from 1903 to 1906.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 500 kuruş a month in 1898/99, as Muhabere Memuru in Gusinje, when 48 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1905/06. An entry in "Sicill-i Ahvâl Defterlerine göre Osmanlı bürokrasisinde Gümülcineli devlet adamları" by ŞEHADET ORAN (2025) probably refers to İbrahim, since the name, the birthplace and the archive register and page agree.
