Muslim (Müslüman). Born in Deir ez-Zor (Deyrizor) in 1879/80 (AH 1297). On record 1903 to 1907, 4 annual entries.

Life

Born in Deir ez-Zor (Deyrizor) in 1879/80 (AH 1297), Mustafa Aşir Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father's occupation was "Piyade". Mustafa Aşir had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi), and wrote Arabic, French and Turkish.

At about 22, in 1902/03, Mustafa Aşir began work in Damascus (Şam), with one unpaid year as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 300 kuruş. From the first annual entry, for 1903/04, to 1906/07, every annual entry places Mustafa Aşir in the same post, communications official (Muhabere Memuru), in Damascus.

The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 300 kuruş a month in 1903/04, as Muhabere Memuru in Damascus, when 23 per cent of paid officials earned less. In all, four years of salary come to 14,400 kuruş, 64 per cent of what an official on the median salary earned in those years. The last annual entry is for 1906/07.
