Life#
Born in Istanbul in 1872/73 (AH 1289), Mehmet Münir Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a clerk (ketebe). Schooling took 14 years, at Darüşşafaka, the school for orphans in Istanbul; Mehmet Münir also attended the telegraph school, wrote French as well as Turkish and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Mehmet Münir began work in Istanbul in 1892/93, at about 20, paid from the start, on 400 kuruş a month. Every annual entry from 1892/93 to 1903/04 places Mehmet Münir in the same office, Muhendis Kalemi, in Istanbul, the birthplace.
