Life#
Ömer Yümni Efendi was born in Burdur in 1884/85 (AH 1302), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Ömer Yümni also held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Work began in Burdur in 1899/1900, at about 15, with two unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 200 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1901/02, with Ömer Yümni as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in Niğde, where the entries run to 1903/04. The last posts were in Antalya from 1904 to 1907, with a rise to acting director (Müdür Vekili) in 1906/07.
Pay rose from 200 kuruş a month in 1901/02 to a peak of 540 in 1906/07, as Müdür Vekili in Antalya, when 61 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1906/07. An entry in "Sultan II. Abdülhamid döneminde Sicill-i Ahval kayıtlarına göre Burdurlu kamu ..." by ELİF YASEMİN YILMAZ (2021) probably refers to Ömer Yümni, since the name, the birthplace and the archive register and page agree.
