Life#
Born in Korçë (Görice) in 1877/78 (AH 1294) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, Süleyman Şevket Efendi was the child of a soldier (asker). Süleyman Şevket had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Work began in Istanbul in 1895/96, at about 18, with one unpaid year as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 200 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1896/97, places Süleyman Şevket in Devebagirtan as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru). The last post was in Mahmutpasa tabyasi in 1898/99.
