Life#
Born in Vidin in 1858/59 (AH 1275), Eyüp Sabri Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Eyüp Sabri had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Work began in Istanbul in 1887/88, at about 29, with one unpaid year as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 150 kuruş. Few began so late; fewer than 5 per cent of the 5,128 officials whose age at first work is known started at 29 or older. Both annual entries, for 1888/89 and 1889/90, place Eyüp Sabri in Istanbul as an official (Memur).
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 150 kuruş a month in 1888/89, as Memur in Istanbul, when 2 per cent of paid officials earned less. After the last annual entry, for 1889/90, the list of 1890/91 (AH 1308) gives the status word Vefat (death).
