Life#
Born in Ankara in 1879/80 (AH 1297), Mehmet Nazmi Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father's occupation was "Matba Memuru". Mehmet Nazmi had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi), and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Work began in Ankara in 1897/98, at about 17, with three unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 42 kuruş. From the first annual entry, for 1903/04, to 1905/06, every annual entry places Mehmet Nazmi in the same post, communications official (Muhabere Memuru), in Ankara, the birthplace.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 200 kuruş a month in 1903/04, as Muhabere Memuru in Ankara, when 8 per cent of paid officials earned less. In all, three years of salary come to 7,200 kuruş, 42 per cent of what an official on the median salary earned in those years. The final annual entry is for 1905/06.
