Life#
Born in Diyarbakır in 1879/80 (AH 1297), Mehmet Sami Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a telegraph official (telgraf memuru). Mehmet Sami had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi), and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Work began in Diyarbakır in 1898/99, at about 18, with four unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 200 kuruş. From the first annual entry, for 1902/03, to 1906/07, every annual entry places Mehmet Sami in the same post, communications official (Muhabere Memuru), in Diyarbakır, the birthplace.
