Life#
Born in Istanbul, İsak Solom Efendi came from the Jewish (Musevi) community; the father was a tradesman (esnaf). The records give birth years from 1878 to 1882 (AH 1296 to 1299). İsak Solom had four years of schooling, at a community school (Millet Mektebi).
Work began in Beyoğlu in 1901/02 (AH 1319), with one unpaid year as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 100 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1902/03, places İsak Solom in Beyoğlu as a chief official for foreign communications (Muhaberat-ı Ecnebiye Başmemuru).
