Life#
İBRAHİM HAKKI EFENDİ was born in Ohrid (Ohri) in 1880/81 (AH 1298) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a tradesman (esnaf). Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); İBRAHİM HAKKI also wrote French as well as Turkish and spoke Bulgarian.
İBRAHİM HAKKI began work in Florina in 1898/99, at about 17, with five unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 250 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1903/04, with İBRAHİM HAKKI as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in Preveza (Preveze). The last posts were in Kastoria (Kesriye) from 1904 to 1908.
The salary went from 250 kuruş a month in 1903/04 to 350 in 1907/08, the peak, as Muhabere Memuru in Kastoria, when 52 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1907/08. An entry in "II. Abdülhamid döneminde sicill-i ahvâl kayıtlarına göre Osmanlı Devleti'nde Ohri ..." by ÖMER ÖĞÜT (2026) probably refers to İBRAHİM HAKKI, since the name and the birthplace agree.
