Life#
İbrahim Kamil Efendi was born in Kafkasya in 1863/64 (AH 1280) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Unpaid work as a mülazım (apprentice) lasted six years. The annual lists begin in 1879/80, with İbrahim Kamil in the Land Registry office (Defter-i Hakani Kalemi) in Istanbul, where the entries run to 1898/99. Next came Gelibolu from 1899 to 1907, with a rise to a post in the Defter-i Hakani Kalemi. In 1907/08 the lists place İbrahim Kamil in Manisa.
Pay rose from 200 kuruş a month in 1879/80 to a peak of 1,400 in 1907/08, in the Defter-i Hakani Kalemi in Manisa, when nine in ten paid officials earned less.
