Life#
Born in Merzifon in 1862/63 (AH 1279) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, Hasan Hüsnü Efendi was the child of a sheikh (şeyh). Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Work began in Amasya in 1883/84, at about 21, with two unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 380 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1885/86, with Hasan Hüsnü as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in Sivas, where the entries run to 1892/93. Next came Bursa in 1893/94. From 1894 to 1898 the annual entries place Hasan Hüsnü in Bozkır, with a rise to director of the third grade (3. Müdür).
The salary went from 380 kuruş a month in 1885/86 to 500 in 1894/95, the peak, as 3. Müdür in Bozkır, when 46 per cent of paid officials earned less. After the last annual entry, for 1897/98, the list of 1898/99 (AH 1316) gives the status word Vefat (death).
