Life#
This official was born in Kirkuk (Kerkük) in 1862/63 (AH 1279), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took four years, at a school for young children (Sıbyan Mektebi).
Work began in Kirkuk in 1882/83, at about 20, with three unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 285 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1885/86, with the official as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in Baghdad (Bağdat), where the entries run to 1894/95. From 1895 to 1905 every annual entry places the official in Kifri (Salahiye), first as a director of the second grade (2. Müdür), from 1896/97 as a director of the third grade (3. Müdür).
The salary went from 285 kuruş a month in 1885/86 to 700 in 1895/96, the peak, as 2. Müdür in Kifri, when three in four paid officials earned less.
