Life#
Born in Terme in 1870/71 (AH 1287) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, Musa Sabri Efendi was the child of a farmer (çiftçi). Musa Sabri had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
At about 20, in 1890/91, Musa Sabri began work in Terme, with four unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 380 kuruş. Every annual entry from 1894/95 to 1898/99 places Musa Sabri in the same post, communications official (Muhabere Memuru), in Samsun.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 380 kuruş a month in 1894/95, as Muhabere Memuru in Samsun, when 26 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1898/99.
