Life#
Born in Istanbul in 1881/82 (AH 1299) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, Ahmet Tevfik Efendi was the child of a telegraph official (telgraf memuru). Ahmet Tevfik had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
At about 21, in 1903/04, Ahmet Tevfik began work in Istanbul, paid from the start, on 50 kuruş a month. From 1903/04 to 1907/08 every annual entry places Ahmet Tevfik in Istanbul, the birthplace, first in the accounts office (Muhasebe Kalemi), from 1907/08 as a letters official (Mekâtib Memuru).
