Life

Born in Kemah in 1881/82 (AH 1299), Mehmet Dursun Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Mehmet Dursun also held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).

At about 19, in 1901/02, Mehmet Dursun began work in Niğde, with half a year without pay as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 250 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1901/02, with Mehmet Dursun as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in Aksaray. The last posts were in Damascus (Şam) and Akabetus sam from 1902 to 1905 and Derrulhamara kalesi in 1905/06.

Pay rose from 250 kuruş a month in 1901/02 to a peak of 800 in 1903/04, as Muhabere Memuru in Akabetus sam, when four in five paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1905/06. An entry in "Sicilli Ahval Defterlerine göre Kemahlı devlet memurları" by YUNUS EMRE POLAT (2014) probably refers to Mehmet Dursun, since the name and the birthplace agree.
