Life#
Born in Kemah in 1865/66 (AH 1282) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, İbrahim Ethem Efendi was the child of a clerk (ketebe). İbrahim Ethem had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi), and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
At about 19, in 1884/85, İbrahim Ethem began work in Kemah, paid from the start, on 150 kuruş a month. The first annual entry, for 1884/85, places İbrahim Ethem in Kemah, the birthplace, as Muvassil, where the entries run to 1894/95. Next came Erzincan in 1895/96, as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru). The last posts were in Refahiye from 1896 to 1905.
Pay rose from 150 kuruş a month in 1884/85 to a peak of 400 in 1895/96, as Muhabere Memuru in Erzincan, when 30 per cent of paid officials earned less. That salary was paid for a single year, and the next list gives 380 kuruş. The last annual entry is for 1904/05; the list of 1905/06 (AH 1323) gives the status word Vefat (death).
